EstateTally

£149 per estate

One payment for one estate. The price you see is the price you pay — nothing is added at checkout.

Software to help you prepare your own IHT400. Not legal or tax advice. We do not apply for probate. Not affiliated with HMRC.

You pay only when the forms are ready

Reading your documents, building the inventory and the preview are free. You pay £149 when you want the figures in the schedules, the tax calculation and the filled forms to download.

Free

  • The free check: whether an IHT400 is needed, which schedules and documents, a rough idea of the tax and the key dates.
  • The Inheritance Tax calculator.
  • All the guides for executors.
  • Uploading documents and seeing the inventory they produce.
  • A preview of the forms, watermarked and with the amounts hidden.
  • Deleting your documents or the whole estate, at any time.

The IHT400 pack: £149

  • The IHT400 and the schedules this estate needs. HMRC’s own current forms from GOV.UK, filled in box by box from your inventory and answers. They stay editable.
  • The IHT400 Calculation. The tax worked out step by step, including interest if you pay late and instalments on a house if you choose them. Where one figure is best left to HMRC, the pack says so.
  • An inventory PDF. Every asset, debt and gift on one list, each with a reference to the document it came from.
  • A box-by-box map. Which figure goes in which box, where it came from and the rule behind it, so you can check every line.
  • A submission checklist. What to send, the copies to enclose, where to post it, and the dates: when the tax is due and when interest starts.
  • A cover letter. A short letter to HMRC to send with the account, for you to sign.
  • Deadline reminders. If you want them: e-mails before the tax is due and before the IHT400 deadline, when interest starts, and when HMRC’s probate code should have arrived.

Before you pay, you see a free preview of the inventory and the forms. The preview is watermarked and the amounts are hidden. After payment you can change your answers and download the pack again for 90 days.

Refunds and cancellation

  • If our software could not read your documents and no inventory was formed from them, you can refund yourself from your estate’s pack page within 14 days of paying, as long as the pack has not yet been produced.
  • You have a 14-day right to cancel. Because the pack is made available straight away, checkout asks you to tick a separate box to ask for it now and to confirm that you understand you lose the right to cancel once the pack has been supplied.
  • If something in the pack is wrong, tell us — your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are not affected.

The details are on the cancellation and refunds page and in the terms.

How this compares with a solicitor

Some solicitors publish fixed fees for Inheritance Tax work. They are a different service: a solicitor gives advice and takes on the work, which software cannot do. These are their published prices for straightforward estates, as shown on their websites on 5 October 2026.

Firms’ prices change and more complex estates usually cost more. Whichever route you take, HMRC’s deadlines are the same, and HMRC’s forms are free on GOV.UK. If you fill in the IHT400 yourself without an adviser, HMRC will also work out the tax for you if you ask it to on the form.

Other costs you may have

These are not paid to us, but you should know about them:

  • Any Inheritance Tax the estate owes, paid to HMRC.
  • The probate application fee, paid to the court service: £526 for an estate worth more than £5,000, according to GOV.UK’s Applying for probate page on 5 October 2026.
  • Valuations of a house, valuable belongings or shares, if you decide to get them.

HMRC’s forms themselves are free on GOV.UK.

Questions about paying

Is it a subscription?

No. It is one payment of £149 for one estate. There is nothing to renew or cancel later.

What if the estate is one you cannot help with?

The free check and the estate workspace look for the cases we do not cover — for example Scotland or Northern Ireland, business or farm relief, trusts or property abroad — and tell you before you pay. You cannot buy a pack for an estate we cannot prepare.

Can I use one purchase for two estates?

No. Each purchase covers one estate. If two people in a family have died, each estate needs its own account and its own pack.

How do I pay?

By card, Apple Pay or Google Pay on Stripe’s secure checkout page. We never see your card details.

Ready when you are

Start with the free check, or go straight to the estate inventory. You pay nothing until you want the filled forms.
